Any advice given is appreciated in advance. I a 1978 k30 and I want to keep it as original as I can minus a few upgrades, but one thing i'm working on right now is the radio and it makes a noise through the speaker when I turn it on but won't play anything

Welcome from NC. The radio is probably dead & you didn't share any pics of it or the truck...or the dead radio!

Antenna might not be connected? Just one speaker?

Most of these use a windshield antenna. There is a snap/button connector on the lower windshield just behind the radio speaker. That button connector has a really short cable attached, with an RCA connector, and then there is a longer cable plugged in and if runs down to connect to the radio.

IIRC, the first short cable has a little smaller RCA connector than a standard radio, so the longer cable is also an adapter if you use an aftermarket radio.

Welcome to the jungle.
I am redoing an 83 c10 an my radio is about the same. My antenna is connected but mostly get hiss. A lot of the hiss is from lint dust etc. on the dial connections (tuning, volume). You can usually improve things by cleaning them. First blow air around the stems then use electronic cleaner spray and work the dials back and forth. Should help. Also, remember that the components are old an probably decrepit (my wife's favorite descriptor for me). They also push only a fraction of the wattage of modern stuff, so the sound will be inferior, even on a good day.

Welcome, and congratulations on spelling Derek correctly.

Sorry I can't help with the radio, but a pic would help the people here that can, to identify which model radio you have.

Good luck.
