Looks like original paint in pics but then I see the gas tanks have some over spray? Need to do some surface rust repair and wondering if this truck had been painted before. Anyone know for certain? Is that normal?

If it was one of the factory peelers, it probably has been.

In the 80's they put a clear protector in front of the rear axle on the bedside, it is kind of hard to see in this picture, but you can see the difference in color there. If it has that and it is clear/ haven't been painted over, the truck hasn't been resprayed. chances are it has.

Oh, and it looks like the speedo cable is dangling :)

She’s dangling for sure. Supposedly has a recent rebuilt 700r4 behind the stock 200k mile 350.

Good advice, Lego. It looks like that clear piece is missing. Thanks for tracking a good photo down.

Found a little rust, minor, but dishonest in the ad. Gonna ask for a discount.

Was going to try to save the paint and just paint the rockers and below the trim. May change course. My body guy wants to do modern base/clear but I kinda like the single stage original look. Buying **** off Ebay, hope this thing isnt a basket case.

Asked in the lounge area for someone to check it out. I am 1500 miles away.

Pretty desirable truck but dont need a basket case. I have 2 other much more desirable vehicles that are borderline basket cases that I’m slowly fixing in my spare time and $$.

One thing about the mileage is the carfax is pretty consistent. Looks like the rebuilt transmission shop could have taken advantage of this old guy seller and he’s passing on the favor via Ebay.

Older repaint.

I see "white" underneath - the original primer color should be black (unless it was built in Janesville. Then it "could" be gray).

Agree, typically black under the paint.
Also as @legopnuematic mentioned there is a plastic protection in front of the rear wheel.
Mine is original paint but I surgically them removed with some aircraft label remover.
Mine were all cracked and made the paint look terrible.

Also your gas tank shields should be black or at least faded black. Not gray.

Well the paints old enough where any rust would be poking it head.

I plan to do some buffing magic on top and repaint below the trim and some on the bedside. We’ll see when I get it if I can save it.

I’ll scuff and hit the tanks with some SEM trim black.

Id wipe my ass with that carfax report. These trucks were long out of production by the time carfax came around..Do you think dealerships and ins. companies went back through their files to send info to carfax so they could load it into their system? Also in 99 I was in an accident with my 97 Z28, I turned it into insurance, went through a licensed body shop and the accident never showed on the carfax.

Ah yeah totally. I wrecked the **** out of my F250 totaling out the other car and it never showed up on carfax. But had the spark plugs changed at the ford dealership and it showed as “being towed in”, like wtf?

Anyway, I was referring to the last few years. It has gone up gradually in mileage. Has always been registered as well. I think its the “rebuilt” 700R4, hope some idiot did that right.

Its a nice short bed, 4x4, 350, 3.73 truck. Interior is pretty nice too.
