Sorry for the square body rookie question. In post #2 animal says "I think most folks use the "Argent Silver" paint on the grills and headlights." So without looking at my truck I assumed people painted the headlight bezels with it. I was talking about the chrome flaking on the bezels.

I probably just need to replace the bezels with better ones huh? I do need to paint the grille.

Those insets in the bezels are what get the argent silver paint, for a stock look.

That chrome is really rough. Not much that can be done with that and still have it look good.

Oh my! That's horrible...poor guy! :(
Maybe a wire brush would help get some of it off and not score it?
@ajordan282 how did you get yours off? Now I see the yellow of his grille and realize it's the same yellow as yours..it won't take much to improve upon that! :(

mine showed no signs of ever having that chrome on it. i believe in '83 it was painted from the factory. i have not seen one with the chrome....but i was born in '91 so maybe i'm too young to have ever seen one before the chrome peeled lol

I don't think mine was chrome either but i'm certain there was some, at some time, in one way or another.

Ok just scored a set of NOS GMC grill moldings. Pair for $75! A fraction of what those on ebay want for their single moldings.

Do these glue on? Or do they press on?

Grille refurbish is underway.

Video to follow.

Hopefully mine will look as nice as gmachinz

What everybody using for the GMC logo color, it appears more orange than red.

i used hugger orange + clear coat. i read somewhere they were hugger orange originally (no idea if that's true but its dern close). this:

i also tried chevy engine red but i didn't like it. this picture shows the color but not really the finish. it was a little dark out.

I know this is an old thread, but I just got a stock grill to replace the stupid aftermarket bar grill that was on my 1980 K25 Sierra Classic when I bought it. I am planning on doing a mild restore on it and was wondering what paint and colors you used? I would like mine to be the same colors you have on the bottom one there.

Just finished another 77-79 and it’s been shipped out-today another 75/76 is finally done....engine badge is NOS, its the only piece I could find NOS when I started-I hate dealing with pitted potmetal used emblems lol.

Hey man did you remove the old paint down to the yellow plastic? The grille looks killer, good job!
