thanks @gmachinz for the info and @skysurfer pic/info (especially like the plate frame). never knew that about the grills, the chromed plastic was long gone from this grill before i got the truck, much like the chrome rings on the instrument bezel haha.

thinking ill shoot the "chrome" portions with the argent silver or something bright/metallic, then mask those faces and do the inset with a slightly darker flat grey.

anyone else got pics of their refurbed grills to share? preferably with an accompanying method :)

Its pretty tuff to explain on a step by step basis how to restore these grills. It helps to have some background experience with automotive paint refinishing to begin with as well as fiberglass/plastic modelling and restoration-all of which I have besides maintaining a harness business.

@"Argent Silver IS the "correct" color but I used the satin aluminum color. It's the same color as the trim and moulding in my house, lol...I keep it around and use a lot...not because it's a ****** product.

I took a shower with the grille...:oops:Washed with my anti-bacterial soap and washrag. (Good enough for ME, good enough for the truck...)
UNGH!
Let dry.
Sanded it a little.
Wiped clean with Acetone.
Sprayed paint.
Let dry.
Sprayed again.

Boom!
Rebuilt. :D

Sounds good, but what cologne did you use on the grille?
Gear oil.

But I need to do a refurb on my grille too. Any idea on the best products for patching cracks and chunks missing by the hood latch?

thanks! blame the duke boys for my unhealthy obsession with those rust bucket mopars...
Beautiful car !:waytogo:

Wrong color and year for the dukes, though.

:D

I hear ya, though - always wanted a '69 and to do slides on dirt roads.

Smokey & The Bandit fueled my Trans Am obsession.

Fall Guy had an awesome square, but I already had one before that show - and before I ever had heard that term...

Anyhoo, back to the previously scheduled post ...

Any tips on removing the chrome plating to prep for paint?
