Has anyone used a posi-traction/G80 rear differential in the front axle?

Not a good idea.. Makes for some awkward steering leading to loss of control, especially on wet roads and when turning..

In general, if you expect to drive it on pavement, you need a limited slip, selectable front differential. Some use switches that are electrical and some are air switched.

I just put an Eaton TruTrac diff in my front 10 bolt…
In my opinion it’s the best choice for the type of driving my truck will be used for.

If the G80 is such a terrible diff then what's the problem? It is not necessarily a street truck it's going in, plus if it has manual hubs, what's the problem?

G80 as in Gov-loc?

I remember reading about this years ago, the theory of putting a Gov Loc in a front diff. I don't remember the outcome. I
don't think the functional bits of the Gov Loc care which direction they are spinning and it *should* work.

Why don't you tell us what the plan is? Is it doable? Sure. Would *I* want to drive it on the street all the time? Absolutely not. For a mud truck or something, sure.

I had a clutch plate style limited slip posi in a 8.5" front axle on a truck before. It worked great, but with the hubs locked you could not turn on dry pavement.
Off road it worked great.

I don't see why any posi type diff wouldn't work. I would not recommend a locker for the front diff.

I still have a limited slip in my front diff. Seemed to work off-road pretty well but it got scary real quick when I tried it on snow packed pavement. The truck jerked left and right and I had to stop to unlock the hubs. I suspect posi would have been more manageable and open diff would have been best.

I'm putting a locker in a 10 bolt soon. It's 4.56 & locked on the tail & It's only gonna be 35's on the truck, as well as just a toy. I'm not doing a daily & commuting with it either. Some of the M10XX trucks came locked on the front Dana 60.
