Morning all ! I was looking at gear ratios for NP203 vs NP205 low and stumbled across a post saying the NP203 would use longer driveshaft. My OE driveshaft is too short with the 4 inch lift (on the Sub when I bought her) and maybe a new shaft to fit a NP203 would be less than having mine redone. I am not charging transfer cases, that is just how I saw this web info.

But ...

Anyone know if the transfer case side mounting for the driveshaft would be the same? I need a longer driveshaft and I see where I can get a SKP936110 from RockAuto for $ 215.00 plus shipping. That's cheaper than I can get mine redone for. :Big Laugh:

TIA !

Britt

This is a double cardan 1350 drive shaft from a 1ton with a 205 t case and Dana 60 front diff Tom woods can build a custom one to fit your rig after some measurements and they are pretty cheap I believe 349 is for the 2 inch tube. I've opted for the 3 inch tube and 16 splines slip shaft to hold all the power it makes and it was 645 with free shipping and a lifetime warranty.

Sm465 gearbox with 205 and either Dana 44 or 60 front the collapsed length I believe is 24 inches plus 3-5 inches of slip yoke movement in some cases. The one in the photo is a one year only 4L80E auto 205 t-case with 60 Dana 60 front and compressed length is 34 plus 3 inches yoke travel

As for the length of the front shaft it would be shorter if you have a manual transmission vs an automatic. The 205 and 203 were used in more than Chevy trucks. I believe if you are using either t case from a Chevy they should be passenger drop Ford and dodge were driver drop but don't quote me on that, have seen too many things that shouldn't have been. Lol

I wouldn't change out an np205. That's a full gear drive unit cash iron housing and worth some cash. Much stronger than the 203. I believe the 203 is sprocket and chain.

The front shaft should be the same length for an NP205 or NP203. The rear shaft will be shorter on an NP203 because the case length is longer. I definitely would keep the NP205 & get shafts to accommodate for the lift. SM465/NP205 are the best combo hands down.

You should have capitalized underlined and quoted" I AM NOT CHANGING TRANSFER CASES" You'll know better next time.
