Not sure if the Suburbans are different from the crewcabs, but I was able to get access to the backing nut after removing the B-pillar trim...after I dropped the nut down the pillar, lol. I tried to hold it in place with a magnet while unscrewing the striker. It didn't work. That sucker dropped like a rock! Had to pull the trim, and use the magnet to reach down to the bottom of the pillar to retrieve the nut. I would think the Suburbans would be somewhat similar.

Yeah I would have to assume they'd be similar too. I'll rip that trim panel off later this weekend and see what it looks like

I did this just now in my Jimmy, and it helped a lot. I tried to do it in the Caprice, but the strikers are smaller, and the door just bounced away when I tried to shut it. Maybe quarter inch pex pipe?

Yep, I'd try smaller pex.

Once you get it cut to where it can open up, simply open the piece and put it around the door stricker with the opening facing away from the latch. Very simple. Now close your door with just a little force and watch is shut nicely without slamming it. If it still does not work, then you have other problems like hinge pins or bad latch.

After you get the pex installed, your stricker will look something like this.

This works great and is a lot cheaper than replacement parts from LMC or anyone else.

Saw a guy over Thanksgiving weekend and told him about this and the site. Hopefully he joins. He had a nice rig.

You won't have to when you get this done. I normally keep a few of these pieces in my glove box. I've handed out and installed a few to other square owners I see and invite them here.

I had some 1/2" cpvc laying around so i took my chances with it. Worked great! Passenger door is like new. Driver much better but i think pins are worn. Cpvc was a little harder to cut and spread open but it worked.

Welcome to the future! It's 2019 and I just now discovered this ancient artifact that healed my elbow from serious damage due to door slamming. I too now have 7'10 1/2" of PEX to donate to the cause. If you can find me, I'll likely share what would otherwise be wasted PEX.

I tried putting some cut 1/8" air line tubing on the rear barn door strikers yesterday but it didn't wrap around far enough. Got to find something a little bigger.

Bringing this back up. Did you ever find something to work on the rear barn doors? I'm going to get some pex for the 4 doors today, but was wondering if anyone has done something similar to the barn doors.
