Hello Everyone,

I have a 1987 V10. It currently has 308 gears with open differentials. I installed a larger engine and a larger stall converter in the 700R4. ( 2000-2400 stall ). I want to change the gears in the differentials to 373 with a limited slip in the rear. So far I have 2 price quotes, one is $3,200 and the other is $3,400. This seems very high to me. Does anyone have any input on this pricing?

that price seems very fair for both axles if everything else is in good shape and no extra items need to be replaced. if something else needs to be replaced, then the price will go up some. I'm in the midwest.

I'm looking to get mine replaced at some point. The last set before covid cost me about ~$600. For the same job now I expect to be told $1,000-$1,200. Thats with (now and then) me supplying the gears and install kit. It's ~$500 for 2 sets of Richmond Excel.

If anything, call smaller semi truck places with a good name and maybe get a better price (or be able to trade stuff you got for the labor).

These are things I'm doing here in BFSEKY to get better pricing.

I just swapped from 3.08 to 4.56 on my '87. I put Spartans on both ends too & it costed me about $1500 total in parts. That is with me doing the work though. I can look up the labor hours if needed but it sounds like you are paying $200 an hour or better for labor by the quote you've posted.
