Just make sure the rags dry out in the open and are not stacked on top of each other. I've heard of contaminated rags spontaneously combusting when in a pile.

Got the compression test done. Everything was right at 120 except #3 and it was at 125.

Have someone turn the engine over and watch the rockers up and down stroke.

Did that yesterday. Everything checks out. They all move just like they are supposed to. Nothing loose or out of place.

That's good. Ok well Heck that leaves a vacuum leak. Anyone think intake leak at this point? Valve guides/ seals?

Was the timing bouncing or stable on one number when you checked it?

It was stable. I'm going to pull the intake and re seal just in case. Haven't decided if I'm going to pull the timing cover yet.

120 is a bit low as it should be more up towards 160 psi but the consistency between the numbers is a good sign either way.

Yea it could be higher, but it's not horrible and I really doubt it would cause the issues your having.

I'm going to pull the intake today. Going to put it and the valve covers in the parts washer and get them cleaned up. Going to replace all my vac lines and my oil pressure sender.

As you pull off the intake check the ports for carbon/ rust or any signs of leakage

I can't remember, did you ever put a vacuum gauge on it and see what you had?

No, but I got one yesterday. Not going to put it all back together just to check vacuum so I'm going to reseal the intake. It has to be leaking. I can't think of any other reason that it won't hold an idle.

You run this same summit intake right? Do you remember the torque specs and bolt tightening pattern? I haven't pulled it yet to reseal but trying to get everything lined up for a quick reassembly. Need to get this thing out of my wife's parking spot.
