That's good to know. My main concern is that they weren't 305 heads.

No you're good. Those are 350/SBC400 heads.

BTW, don't you mean 333882? Pretty sure they are 333882's. I just know when I see the 333 and only 6 digits since most heads, even the older ones had 7 digits, that they are those what started out as SBC400 heads with steam holes and notorious for cracking. Later made castings were a tad bit better and also used on many crate 350's.

It could be, but it certainly looks like a 9 to me. It doesn't matter at this point, they will be replaced one of these days anyway.

No, it really doesn't matter, I was just testing myself if I still had it or not. I used to be a walking SBC text book. I could tell you casting #'s of heads, blocks and cranks, and many times what they came in and a year range. I kept thinking that 333892 looked different, then it came to me, it's 882. Fairly certain it's supposed to be 333882 and they originated as SBC400 heads in the earlier years of production.

That's good to know. I'm finally learning a bit about my power plant. Part of me hopes I need a rebuild so I know everything I put in it. The other part of me (my wallet) hopes its fine. I can't afford it at the moment but it would be sweet to do a rebuild.

882's are some of the best crappy heads though.

Yes, the later production ones are much better. The early ones are notorious for cracking. One good overheat and they're done.

There was two different versions of 882.; Heavy casting and light casting.

My 74 with a 350 has the heavy casting version of the 882 till I swapped them out.

I'm not sure of when they changed the casting but I have a set of original 882 heads and they are ******* heavy turds.

The light casting has what is referring to as scalloped edges.

All my sets must be the heavy casting, I never realized there was a light version of the 882.

any idea how to get all this gas out of here? I thought it would evaporate but I think it's got too much oil mixed with it.

Lol the 454 needs rebuilt. If I have to rebuild this one, I will go with the 454, but I don't wanna swap yet if I don't have to.

Only way I can think of is rags set in the crevices to soak it up.

That may be my only option. I sprayed it with carb cleaner and that helped a little. I was going to use my air compressor to blow it dry but that's going to make a huge mess.

Yeah that would get messy in a hurry.
