I've got an old 1405 that came on an old motor I bought a while back. It has the bracket on it, so if you need one I can mail it to you.It should be getting power, there’s a wire going on the outside of the cap by the “tach” plug, and a three wire plug that goes closer in on the cap that comes from inside the distributor. Is there anything I can do to help it out in the cold weather? The choke is ziptied shut, I’m going to see if that bracket came in the box and if so I’ll install it and a choke cable, should I pour a little fuel in as a boost? Like @Bextreme04 said, turn up the idle screw?
I would bet at this point you are just one little thing away from getting it going. When you say it fires and then dies when you let of the starter, that tells me that you need to give it a little bit more throttle. Just enough to keep it running. Once it is running long enough to warm up, you will need to get it fully warm and then set the timing. Then set the warm idle rpm. Then adjust the idle mixture screws to lean of peak. Then you should be golden. Once you have all of that dialed in, it should fire up fine on the choke the next day for you to set the cold high idle RPM(which should start off at around 900RPM cold and then rise to about 1200-1300RPM as it warms).
