This is with choke on, if I touch the throttle the choke closes, should I pump it a few times close the choke and attempt to start?

Does this sound like it’s just too cold? It’s firing but not staying running. Is it too lean? Fouled plugs? I’m freezing outside so I know it’s not happy.
Yes, choke on and throttle screw turned in a few turns and I bet it fires right up

Yes, I would just zip tie the lever on the other side closed(to the back) and then pump 2-3 times and crank till it starts. If you have to give it light throttle to get it to fire, you don't have the screw in far enough.

I just turned the idle screw in until it shut the choke, then closed the chrome back. It still won’t start.

Once it fires and has a chance to warm up a bit, then cut the zip tie and let the choke come off. Then blip the throttle and it will come off the high idle cam. Once that happens you can do the idle mixture and idle set screw adjustments as well as timing.

Maybe flooded? Make sure choke flap stays closed(suggest zip tie or safety wire). Throttle full open and crank. That should clear it if flooded.

I'm not sure what this means. Idle screw should have nothing to do with choke closure

@Bextreme04 I assume it opens the choke because it comes off the cam?

The idle screw will pull it off the cam if you screw it in too far and the lever on the passenger side isn't held to the rear. Hold that lever to the rear(again.. zip tie or wire), then unscrew the main idle screw(you want to be able to get it OFF high idle at some point), and screw in the high idle screw just a bit. Then you will have a carb that is functioning like you would expect on a normal cold start. It will give you the ability to mess with the throttle as needed to get it to start without letting the choke pull off.

Once its warmed up, then you can cut off the zip tie and let the choke be off.

As all good things do, it must come to an end. Battery didn’t like the cold weather either apparently. Started cranking slower and slower until I figured it had enough for today. It was firing but it stopped as soon as let off the key, I have the choke ziptied closed and I pumped it a couple times and it fires almost instantly but it doesn’t take off like it should. And once you let off the key it stalls out after a second.

That too... but you'll never get it to start in sub zero temps with no choke on and not on a high idle.

Probably need to charge the battery and try again tomorrow. I'd give the high idle screw an extra turn or two and try again.

Also, you can leave the distributor somewhat tight(just enough to turn it with mild force. Then, turn it a bit clockwise and counterclockwise in between attempted starts. You will likely be 10-20 degrees off of where you want to be initially(which isn't helping this process)
