It looks like it needs a z bend in the cable then. You can pick up a cable locally at a farm store or something for small engines usually. I found my skidsteer cable at farm and fleet. It was a long sucker too. That just used a plate you bent to retain the cable, but edelbrocks bracket would hold the cable at the rear end of the carb and you just need to snake the cable through and also mount it

Just hold the choke level closed, then put the throttle all the way open, then slowly release. Then start the truck and let it warm up for a minute or two before slowly opening the choke lever. Once warm enough to run on its own, set the initial timing and start setting everything else up.

I have a 6’ universal cable on the way, was supposed to be delivered on the 8th… but I found another universal laying around with no given length, I’ll make it work for time being.

@Bextreme04 it should start with choke closed? If it doesn’t then what? I’ll go try it but I want to try and get more planned than just trying that lol it’s cold outside for tennessee

I replaced the plugs, yes, but they’re fouled from running rich. But it should still run somewhat correct? If it fired right up and needed plugs I’d do that, if the plugs were the problem.

you said you didnt gap them, i would pull them clean/dry them, gap them, and put back. the more hurdles your truck has to jump over to start is the longer your standing around it trying to start

The screw on top of the carb next to the fuel line should be holding a bracket that clamps the choke wire sleeve. Yours appears to be missing that bracket.

When the choke is on(pushed back in your pic above), there is a cam on the drivers side that rides on the lower idle set screw. When the choke is off that screw doesn't rest on anything and the throttle is allowed to rest on the upper set screw.

Its not the plugs. It that you are trying to start an engine in cold ass temps with no choke on. Having leaned it out doesn't help, since the colder the engine is, the richer it needs to be to start. If the choke is applied and the lower screw isn't on the cam, then screw it in a few turns, give it two or three pumps of the throttle and crank until it starts.

Does this sound like it’s just too cold? It’s firing but not staying running. Is it too lean? Fouled plugs? I’m freezing outside so I know it’s not happy.

You showed us pics of the plugs and they looked like they had enough gap and were not fouled that bad.
