Right. Iirc, the newer generation 4.3 was derived from the LT series (gen 4?) of small block.

At least it doesnt have AFM! But they are kinda severely underpowered compared to the 4.8/5.3/6.0/6.2 +

nevermind, apparently it DOES have AFM. and its a 5th gen LS

Wow! Great info here I never knew about the 4.3.
I remember way back when it first came out in the S10 trucks. It was supposedly a V8 with two less cylinders design.
That engine was a tire burner in those little trucks.

thats why a vortec late 90s one is worth it, its got more hp, a balance shaft (a huge win for smoothness), and its still a SBC under the hood really

Pretty sure the accessory drive would still be the same but not sure how long that remains true going into the 2000s

My '04 Blazer still has the same accessory drive that was used starting in '96. Iirc, my buddy's old '07 C1500 did as well. It's an incredibly easy system to adapt into a squarebody.

While not really relevant to the original post, Some of the later engine changes (post 98) included elimination of the egr valve and updated injector design in 02-03 and updated ignition in 07, that used a 58x reluctor wheel instead of the 3x that had been used since ‘96.
Also, around 99-2000, the crank pilot bores changed to allow the 300mm shaft transmission to be used.
