I am getting ready to order some dingleball hones to clean up some cylinder bores on different engines. I see they come in various grits. What would be the recommended grit to get? 240, 320, or 400? Cast iron rings will be on the pistons. I was thinking 320, but wanted to ask here. This goes for the lifter bores as well.

Just skimming through that he said 280 rings will seat faster. I have a LS that was locked up I was going to try on
220 for cast iron or chrome rings, but finer grits for other rings.

I'm sure your all over that you need the expandable straight hones to clean up a bore, and the dingle balls just put a cross hatch finish on to hold an oil film.
If you use the balls to "re-furb" a bore, they will not hold a true straight wall, and just follow any bulges or ridges already there ..

When I rebuilt my GoldWing engine, I contacted Total Seal to get the info on cylinder finish. They guided me on grit and technique to get the correct crosshatch pattern.
Grit is only half the equation. Crosshatch pattern angle is just as critical for break in.

I would contact the ring mfg and chat with them.
You only get one chance for break in.
