Why not get an early LS and a reputable aftermarket controller. Avoid the headache altogether. I believe GM sells a controller and harness? Seems like the expense is more than worth the headache.

2001 and 2002 ECUs are more reliable than the 1999 and 2000 versions, which have bricked themselves sometimes when reflashing.

I focus on 2002 Silverado 5.3s and their ECUs, especially since they are DBC throttle bodies.

Hard to believe we're talking about stuff that's 20 years old.
What is a DBC throttle body?

Drive by cable vs, DBW (drive by wire - electronic), I think...

What's more desirable in the LQ4s, the 1999-2000 w/CI heads, or the 2001-2007 w/aluminum heads?

Holley terminator system is designed for LS swaps and comes with the harness priced at $1k, you figure 600 for stand alone harness, 200 for ecm tune to remove un-needed features from stock system and your almost even on cost. If you want to control the trans you need the terminator X which cost more.
