You guys in other states are lucky. Here in Ca, most small body shops do not have a legal spray booth, they have to take the car to one and rent it, or have them spray it. The paint that is legal here is also different, since it must dry quickly without off gasses.

So a paint job here is going to cast you more money and won't be as good, its sure a good thing that we don't have rust problems here.

That's why I call it Califuckya. That's what they do every chance they get. Lol

Was in a TSC today (Tractor Supply) and saw "implement paint" acrylic enamel in a gallon, with the activator for about $60.

Majic brand?

The stuff lays down ok and doesn't have a heck of a lot of gloss, but it certainly holds up better and looks better than spray paint.

My (step) dad told me urethane enamel is what I'm looking for. Said it will be single stage....and tough.

[edit] durable was the word...not tough

forgot to say, the only reason I'm changing the fenders is because the bolt holes for the inner fender wells are pretty much none existant (think maybe max 3 on each side). So while I'm driving into the farm at 5am to hunt, you hear this squeak from them rubbing going over different terrain. pisses me off lol. "yes deer....i'm home.... run off as usual...hopefully catch u in the hallway".

Otherwise they are rust free.

I had an old sun faded Toyota Corolla I used to drive to school. I was going to roll on aluminized farm paint with a flat black hood, but the transmission died before I could.

If my truck was in terrible shape and not my father-in-law's old one, I'd probably do that to it.

I'll play. For the OP. I'd go get a quart of the premixed 1k paint from autozone and a cheap cup gun. Its better than a rattle can.

Quick work, the proper either rollers and brushes or dilute to spray, farm implement enamel but with the acrylic hardener or whatevers

basicaly high gloss won’t Be uneven in a super bad amount esp if you work fast and quickly. Rock hard too. I’d only recommend to do this as a make it work attempt because that would be difficult and time extensive to remove

krylon implement and Valspqr make a lot of nice colors. Usually bright but a couple satin of just duller colors lol

Gonna try the urethane enamel on it in my buddies spray booth. Unless I get the panels welded on soon, it may not happen this year. Focus changes when hunting season is open lol.

A urethane is what you want.
While I can’t speak yet for the finished product, Tamco paint (online only) has spectacular prices for (claimed) very high quality paint. Only catch with them is they don’t do metallics in single stage paint.

@Camar068 I went to a couple shops here locally and I told them what I wanted to do. I would blast all the old paint and fix the rust etc. etc. The quotes I got were ridiculous. So I have blasted all the old paint off. Still have the Hood to do. resealed everything, repaired replaced things that were out of my caliber to fix. And at 62 years of age I'm learning how to do it myself on step at a time. I just primed my first door and drivers wheel tub. I surprised myself and the Tamco epoxy primer looks awesome. That tub has cured one coat and it still looks like that. If you have access to a booth go for it!
