My ‘87 dash pad is in pretty good condition and doesn’t need any work yet and would like to keep it that way. I use it as a daily driver and don’t have a garage, so it sits in the sun regularly. Any advice on how to keep the dash from cracking / splitting from starting in Louisiana summers? Is window tent and a autozone under the seat type of visor enough? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Dash cover is best UV light is what kills them. Alternate 303 protectant for boats.

@Bennyt @fast 99 I’m not big fan of the carpet dash covers. So I know nothing about them. Can you just toss it up there and pull it back down, or is it simi-permanent kinda deal?

Here in Florida, I’ve seen folks tinting the windshield to help. I’m actually considering it on my daily driver before my dash starts to show signs of sun damage

Be sure that is legal in your state. Some states it is not.

Have a carpet cover in one truck. It was attached with Velcro strips. When I changed the pad didn't reinstall the strips. Still works ok like that but will slide around if driven sporty. Now I put it on only when parked. They can be rolled up into a small ball and laid on the seat when driving.

The dash cover I got, think off of Amazon, comes with about 12-16 (something like that) little Velcro stick ons that you can strategically place around the dash pad, and pull the cover taut across the top. I’m not a huge fan, but mine actually fits really good. It’s helpful if you put the cover in the dryer for a few minutes prior, helps it be more pliable and gets some of the wrinkles out.

36 year old dash pad, daily driver, parked outdoors in the Deep South?
May as well just get your utility knife, put a couple relief cuts in it and poke out some of the speaker perforations with a dull #2 pencil, now and get it out of the way! Lol
Seriously, I’d 303 it every week, put up a reflecto screen when it’s parked.
And I’d consider a ceramic tint on the windshield. Not dark tint. That’s just dumb. But a 90-95% unless not driving it at night, or doing anything that you’d not like to divulge if pulled over for a dark windshield, lol.
