1982 k20 (with k10 axles) 6.2 diesel and aito trans.
Had the auto hubs and like all the other ones they started slipping a wee bit.

I got the warn manual locking hubs 2990 kit.
Redid bearing and hub seal too repacked grease etc etc etc.
Watched the hour long YouTube video from vortex garage where the guy really goes from A to Z.
Installed hub, locking ring, verified the play necessary for proper engagement
It was good on both sides.
Finished install.

The passenger side doesn't click onto lock, but there's an audible clicks when going to free.
And the driver side. I get a 1/4 turn from free to lock. And then then it just jams me up. I can't turn it any further. I didnt dare try with pliers or vice grips. I'm not rich enough to void any warranties lol. It does go back to free easily enough and doesn't really audibly click as strong as passenger side but you feel it by hand.

Now, I read up a bit prior to posting.
Both fronts were jacked up, in 2 high,

I read don't add more grease..I greased the entire spindle concentrating more where the bearings go. A bit hard to keep this job clean, so sure some got on spindle.
Also, how would I go about removing the grease on spindle without removing the grease from the pre greased warn hub?

Should also mention, I can't start on move the truck. I'm waiting on parts to do an aux cooler install for my engine oil (n coz it's an 82 the kit from leroy diesel won't fit).

The audible clicks on the passenger side worries me less, I saw some posts of different Ford forums that said that is fine,
But jamming up after barely turning the hub is kinda worrying me. Lots warning about driving with hubs not properly on free or lock

Truth be told I'm a bit disappointed. My auto hubs were great until they weren't, got my out of some wicked snow drifts. And everyone swears by warn and that they're the standard as far as 4x4 hubs go. And so far I was like. Huh. Tempted to box them back up and send them back.

Hubs are numbered inside the caps 1 and 2
I doubt it matters which ones goes where. I didnt see anything in instructions bout it.
If it matters however, 1 is on driver, 2 is on passenger.

Anyways, my gut tells me that maybe the spindle was greased too much. But I hope I see a post someone having same trouble and their fix for it.

Cheers folls

Bearing grease in the Warn hubs is never a good idea; they like a less viscous lubricant so they can move freely --- and they don't "move" once they are in position anyway --- so grease isn't even needed, although something to keep them rust-free would be nice.

I have seen everything from spray graphite to Hoppe's Gun Lube on them --- all good, mind you.

You really greased the whole hub assy? That's a big waste of grease 'cause even though some people think grease meanders around, refreshing the bearings by flowing in and back out of them --- it isn't so.

Correctly --- DO pack the bearings, wipe off the excess, rubbing a little "backing" onto the races --- don't fill the hubs - and that's all you can do for the bearings. Really. Full stop.

Shoving grease into the hubs is a useless activity.

I'd find brand new grease stuffed into the hubs that was still unused and uncontaminated, and I could use it to pack the bearings if someone wanted that done. Many times, I could fill a grease gun with all the extra grease in the hubs.

I have lubricated my Warn hubs with Vaseline or Dr Tranny --- (a preassembly lube for overhauling gearboxes and transmissions of all kinds); I have also used LPS spray lube .... but grease? No way.

Yeah, i basically mirrored what vortex garage did on his video
xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

I didn't pack the entire hub no. Hard to explain i guess. Yes,packed bearings, and put some on spindle shaft.

See this is where I'm confused they come pre greased. And you just dropped list of all sorts of other lubricants.

I dont have lps lube. I've got wd40 and maybe some fluid film.
Alright, well I'll pull it off and see what I can do about the inside of warn hub

Yeah I rewarched the video, you can see the grease from the inside of the warn hub kinda splooge out.
That's basically how mine looked at the end. Maybe more?
Hard to compare.
I'll need to dig it out. Got hit by 8 inches of snow!
