Cross pin bolt snapped

Changing leaking rear axle seal, go to remove the cross pin and it's snapped, anyone any suggestion other than they kit skyway sells. Thanks in advance.

That's not a fun job!! Looks like you got lucky and most of the threads broke off. I would try and get in there with picks and screwdrivers and try to rotate the rest out.

But most likely you'll have to drill it out, which looks like it wouldn't take much. But that's a really crappy job lol. I would say I feel bad for you but I've been there before, at least I can share the suffering! Thankfully nothing of my own lol

You could possibly try pounding the center pin out and hope it doesn't break the carrier. Try that at your own risk, it will most likely break the carrier or make the center pin bolt hole unusable. Maybe a better option after a little drilling. Would replace center pin after that too.

Get a GOOD new left-hand drill bit or 2. If you're lucky drill will stick and back the piece out. That worked many times for me on exhaust manifold bolts.

I ran into this a couple months back and dreaded it until I bought the kit to drill it out and remove the bolt. It was a 5 minute job with it. It has a threaded guide that a long 1/8th in drill bit can flex enough to allow you to drill a hole in the center of the bolts and use an easy out to remove it.

What new tools have you got lately?

Heat it with propane and don't use much force if you are using an EZ OUT if you break the EZ Out you can't drill it out. If it doesn't feel like it's moving,keep drilling the pilot hole bigger until you are at tap drill size,then tap it.

If it won't back out with a pick set and patience, the kit sold for this broken bolt removal is well worth the investment.

I did this recently on my 12 bolt. No "on the market" drill bit would touch it, carbide bit was too short. Eventually I saw some guys placing a welding rod in the hole and just barely touching the juice. I did that, it welded right to the bolt and I pulled it right out. Just a short tap on the voltage...... Best of luck!!
