That video may be correct on some of the later blocks. Prior to 1987 or so the displacement is not cast into the block...
This is a pretty decent explanation of the most useful smallblock ID information.
https://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/wiki/Identifying_Chevy_engines

Casting Number: 14016379
Chevrolet Small Block V8
Dates: 1978-1985
Displacement: 350, 2 bolt or 4 bolt

Stamp: VD212800
V=Flint

The last picture is a shift or casting mold ID mark... It ain't a 379 diesel block.

Found in another forum

"(866-453-4123) to GM that can help identify via that serial # on the front of the block by the waqter (sic) pump."

It's just a serial number. Cannot be decoded.

Will call Monday.

Borrowed an invisibility cloak for the alternator. Can see the numbers clearly now.

1M1015
9VP

My current guess is this is not a 350/290 as was told to me, but a
GOODWRENCH 350/195.

This wasn't the only lie I was told when I bought the truck.

Karma are you listening!

From another web site

From the Engine Assembly Code you posted, 1M0521 4VP; 1= Chevy, M = Mexico, 0521 = May 21 (assembly day), 4 = 1994, VP Engine Suffix Code = 350 CID, 260 HP.

From another web site

See if this helps...found this when looking up mine
If it is 10066036 then it's a GM goodwrench crate engine.

Here's ALL of the info on that engine.

350 Cubic inches 4.00" Bore, 3.47" stroke
8.5:1 compression ratio.
250 HP @4300 rpm
350 ft. lbs of torque @ 3600 rpm
( These Numbers obtained with a Quadrajet Carb,1 5/8" headers , and an Edelbrock Performer intake part # 2101)

Engine consists of the following parts:

Block -part # 10066034, casting # 10066036
2 piece rear main seal 4 bolt main
Crankshaft- # 3932444
Nodular Iron 1985 and older flywheel bolt pattern.
Powdered Metal Connecting rods- # 10108688
Cast Aluminum Pistons-#12514101
G.M. High Volume Pump Oil Pump- part # 12555284
Hydralic Flat tappet Camshaft- #14088839
Intake Lift-.383" Exhaust Lift-.401"
Intake Duration @ .050"- 194 Exhaust Duration @.050"- 202
Lobe Seperation-112
This cam Has a mechanical Fuel Pump Lobe.
This is a low end Torque oriented camshaft.

Cylinder Heads- part # 14034808, casting #33417369, 1.94" Intake valve, 1.50" Exhaust Valve, 76cc Combustion Chamber, 7 Bolt style Exhaust Flange Standard, 85' and prior intake manifold bolt pattern. Perimeter bolt style Valve Covers. This head is very similar to the old #882 castings from the 1970's

This engine includes Painted Valve Covers, oil pan and Timing Cover. This engine is drilled for both L.H. and R.H. dipsticks. Plugs Are included to plug the side not used. Two timing pointers are also included, a pointer for a 6" balancer and a pointer for an 8' balancer.Balancer with 2:00 timing mark must be used with this engine in order for mark to line up with the pointer.
For most stock applications with HEI ignition, Base ignition timing should be set to 10 before top dead center (with vacuum advance disconected) Total ignition timing should be around 36 @ 3000 rpm.
Spark plugs that should be used are AC Delco R45TS gapped at .045"
Oil filters used with this engine include PF25 , PF35 , PF1218 , or PF35L. The first oil filter is a 1/2 Quart type, the last three are the 1 quart type.
Generally 10W30 or 10W40 oil is used in this engine.

Sounds to me like your 14016379 casting is not a 350/290 crate engine.

From Mortec.com:

14016379...350...77-79...2 or 4 bolt mains

10036033...350...........4...Goodwrench crate motor, 2-piece rear
seal, "Hecho en Mexico"

10066038...350.....92....4...Goodwrench crate motor, 2-piece rear
seal, "Hecho en Mexico"

Another way to identify the basic Goodwrench 350 engines is by the oil pan. That's because they have a provision for a passenger side dipstick, and you can easily see the "bump outs" on both sides of the oil pan. And just above the oil pan "bump out" on the passenger side, there would be a plugged dipstick hole in the block. Not as high up as on the driver's side, though.

I don't think any numbers on the block will tell you if its a 350/290 HP engine or the stock 350/250 HP crate engine. I bought a 350/290 HP crate engine from a GM dealer in about 2004, and at that time the only difference between these two engines was the cam. I found that the bigger cam took away some of the low end, and I swapped in a Summit 1101 cam a couple of years later.

If anyone really wants to have the 222/222 @ .050 cam from the 350/290 HP engine, I would be happy to give it them if they pay shipping. I also have the Summit 1101 cam that I just pulled out about a week ago when I switched to a retrofit roller cam.

Never made the call. ID is 1M1015 9VP
I'm pretty sure this is the GOODWRENCH 195 net/260 gross HP 350 CID motor.

I was told the M is for Mexico
1 before the M is decade of manufacture
1015 is Oct 15
9 is last digit of year
VP is GOODWRENCH

BUT what decade is the leading 1,

Is date 1989, 1999, 2009, etc.?

Karma are you listening!

Assume everything the seller tells you is a lie. Usually, you will not be surprised.
Every 265, 305, 307, and 350 is a 350 out of a Corvette or Trans Am... that is if it's not supposedly a 400.:anitoof:

The 283, 302, & 327 are pawned off as 350's too if the liar isn't careful about it. In my younger years, I bought a tired out 1966 L79 327 and a really tired 302 Camaro motor... The jackwagon selling them told me they were both 78 350 Vette motors. He didn't know the 302 was worth more than a 350 vette motor, even needing a re-build in 1988, and the L79 was no cheapo motor either... Not the really hot L84 or L76 but no slouch for a 327 at 325-350hp. Since he kept flapping his jaws, I didn't educate him either. Bought em and sold em for a tidy bit of pocket money as what they really were. Tired out but real factory performance smallblocks. The 302 went in a Camaro a buddy was building that had a rod window in the side of the original 302. The older fellow that bought the 327 said it really came out of a Corvette... since he was putting it in a 66 Vette that's fine if he believed that. I didn't contradict him. The important thing is I didn't lie to him I just let him float along and be happy. Smile and wave boys. Smile and wave. I think it actually came out of a Chevelle or a Nova and it was priced accordingly.
