Charcoal canister delete?

So the open ended hose should be venting your tank, yet like me, you still had pressure building up as evidenced by your statement "Easton did say the other day that when he opened the fuel cap there was a big “vent” of fumes". The mystery continues. Let us know if the hole in the cap solves that problem.

This is all pretty interesting to me because I've had similar experiences with my 83 regal coup. I put a tuned port small block in it and had to drill hole in cap until I can revisit the situation.

They had a cap on the end of the line. Other than that, what could cause the tank to pressurize is fuel condensing in the line. You would build pressure until it was high enough to push the "fluid head" out of the tube and onto the ground. A normal system would have a run into the charcoal canister and the purge line running to the carb or EFI system. When in a cruise situation where the engine is pulling high vacuum, it would pull any fluid condensed in the lines into the intake and also help vaporize any condensed gasoline inside the charcoal canister itself so that it will continue to operate properly for an extended amount of time.

My 67 Buick Riviera fuel tank has no charcoal canister or extended fuel vent. It has a large(5/8" maybe?) connector on top of the tank that runs to a fuel hose, then maybe 4" to a big metal loop that then just drops down towards the ground. Inside the tank it has a long tube that runs along the entire top of the fuel tank with a small inlet on top of the tube at the end. This is the entire extend of the tank venting system.

@SquareRoot we will keep you posted. As of today I moved it to garage and back out hours later and did not check the pressure then. Put his instrument bezel in … well almost. DIN radio cut out I made was still needing some tweaking so had to leave it.. he has a baseball game.

What do y’all think about using this vent as suggested above?

It doesn’t hurt to keep it. It keeps gas fume smell down in garage. But if you do delete it put a fuel filter on it up front or back by the tank but keep it higher than tank. Or plug line and get a vented gas cap. There is also a valve style vent in case of roll overs out there.

Easton says With hole in cap, no back pressure on tank today. Drove it quite a bit and then opened gas cap… nothing.
Still plan on doing the valve addition to the line in the engine compartment as @Bextreme04 recommends. Can’t hurt at all. Waiting for valve and fuel line from scamazon and will post additional picture.

No it doesn't hurt to keep it. Besides keeping gas fumes down it also keeps moisture out of the tank (reducing rust). Especially important with todays fuels. If you don't run your cannister, you are venting the gas tank directly to atmosphere wasting fuel to evaperation.The much bigger problem is you are also drawing atmospheric air into the tank,even just sitting in the driveway getting hot in the afternoon and cool in the evening getting that nice cool water laden evening air in your gas tank. Contaminates your fuel,rusts your fuel system and a properly working evap system won't hurt the the way the car runs.

He plays 2nd. And yes, Easton is a very large baseball equipment supplier. We did not “know” baseball when he was born and chose that name.. just kinda happened….
