C vs K 8 bolt rims

Will a C rim fit on K model truck, not sure if the center hole diameter is different between 2 and 4 wheel drive? I’m considering buying four steel rims which I can run the dog dish caps.

Be careful, the Ford 8 lug wheels are different. They have a different size center hole. Either larger or smaller. I cant remember. I think it is larger.

Yep, the same. Ford and Dodge have a slightly larger center opening, but they also fit. Up until the Super Duty years that is.

The newer GM C and K 8 bolt rims are different than the old.
It was somewhere around 2021 that these changed.
Prior to this change the majority interchanged.

Ford was the first to start changing things, just for the sake of changing things, in '99 for the Super Duty line, with an 8 on 170mm bolt pattern. Those crazy bastards had also switched to 7-lug wheels for the new-for-'97 F250.

I had a few of those trucks. Whoever’s idea was to save the extra $5 worth of wheel lugs and nuts….
Kinda like the oddball 6x4.5 on the first gen Durangos and 2nd gen Dakotas.

1. What year did or when did ford switch from the 8 lug on 6.5 hole pattern to a 8 lug x 170mm hole pattern I thought I got a good deal on some winter rims and tires off a 02 excursion they were the steel wheels and centers but they wouldnt fit m 97 f250hd crew I gess I should of done a little more reading before I got them.

2. The bolt pattern changed when Ford introduced the "Super Duty" line of trucks for the 1999 model year.

3. Just for the record...they are also "hubcentric" which means the lug nuts don't center the wheel.

1. Does any one know what year the 8 lugs went from 8X6.5 to 8X170mm?
I am looking for a set of 8 lug rims in a whole size like 16X10 or 17X10.


2. It was for the 99 model year (which actually came out in 98). 97-older 250 & 350 have the 8 on 6.5" bolt pattern.

3. This is the actual problem. To the best of my knowledge, Chevy didn't go metric on the 8 lugs like Ford, but the center hole is small and WILL NOT fit over the hub. You can put a Ford wheel on a Chevy, but you can NOT put a Chevy (or Dodge) wheel on a Ford.

For the record, they make 8 lug, 15" wheels with a large center. They bolt right on a Dodge with no modifications. For Chevy, you have to shave the calipers down a little so they fit. For Fords, you have to run drum brakes. They won't fit on disc brake axles.


Alloy Wheel Torque


1. Note: Alloy wheels should always be installed using a torque wrench ensuring proper mount. Check your vehicle owner manual for proper specifications. General recommendations by stud size in Ft/Lbs: 12mm = 70-80, 7/16 = 55-65, 1/2 = 75-85, 14mm = 85-95, 9/16 = 95-115, 5/8 = 135-145

It is prudent to re-torque wheels after about 60 to 90 miles (100km to 150km) of driving. Learn more about lug nuts and torque.

Ford is well known for changing things at the drop of a hat.
There was no consistency what people wanted.
Chevy stuck with the small and big block and people loved it.
You can put a 502 BB in the same place a 194 I6 came out of and use the same transmission and bell housing.
Ford would put a totally redesigned engine in a pickup in mid year and think nothing of it.
Ford was their own worst enemy and apparently still are?
