It may come down to people being emissions-savvy. Let's say I bought that truck. It is currently in Nevada, but I live in California so it needs to be tested as a California truck and there may be all kinds of paperwork to get it registered here. Now let's say I was tired of having a v-6 engine and wanted to upgrade to a v-8. In order to do so I would have to run a v-8 from a same year or older AND take it to the Referee to get a new CARB number for it. Putting a v-8 in it may also prompt other modifications so to me it's not a good purchase. I have wanted to do stuff to my truck but to make the emissions commies happy here in this state, I keep any and all engine modifications as low-key as possible. If they ever got curious and took a closer look at the heads I'm running, they could possibly make me run emissions for a 96 vortec truck, which would mean upgrading to fuel injection and whatever other goodies there were installed in 96. I don't want that, so I make mine look like it came from the factory the way it is.

That's my thinking on why it hasn't sold. But there may be other obvious reasons that aren't visible in the ad, only visible in person.

I see your point on the emissions, but holy cow. It's a short bed with a 4 speed. I looked hard for a year to find mine and paid $2300 for it, and it needs a lot of work. With that being a NV truck, I assume it's fairly rust free. If I had the cash in my pocket, I could buy that, even if it cost me $1500 for shipping, and come close to doubling my money, and probably have a buyer lined up before it even got to my house. Or keep it lol. Drive it until the V6 blows up. It's all about having the cash up front though. That part always gets me.


After looking closer at those pics, I couldn't double my money. It's nice, but not 8k nice. Need interior work and the paint isn't as good as I first thought. Should still be a steal at $2500 though.

I imagine part of the issue selling it is the availability of these trucks out here, there's probably 10 squarebodies on Reno craigslist right now just from the last two weeks, ranging anywhere from beaters to Very well kept trucks like:

Don't get me wrong I like the truck, it reminds of an old Forest Service truck and I have always liked those for some reason. I was just stating what is entailed to bring it to CA. In NV they don't even have boots on their gas pump nozzles to capture vapors, and run a different blend of fuel that CA won't allow. My boss just bought a nice car for his wife and had it shipped in from out of state, and he had to fill out paperwork twice for the DMV before they would even consider registering it. He had to verify the number on the block, the frame, the VIN at the base of the windshield, etc. to make sure all the numbers matched. And that was only because CA wants to make sure it will meet their stringent emissions testing. I envy you all that don't have to deal with that.

That aside, if I lived in Lake Tahoe area or some other place in CA that doesn't require emissions testing, I would buy it to have 4x4 square with a manual transmission. The requirements I stated about the other emissions testing is if I bought it and brought it back here to my current smog-ridden place of residence.

Lol what's all this about a boot on a gas nozzle? I too am glad that we don't have to mess with that. I just drove past a highway patrolman with open headers doing 65 and he waved at me. Even if he would have stopped me he probably would have let me go when I told him the motor was just replaced and I was testing everything out. My truck would never leave my driveway if it had to pass inspection and smog tests.
