Huh. I guess all the CUCV's I've seen have required a PTO, because they've all had the 205.

Why would they build them with a 1-ton frame and axles, and then use the weak 208 t-case?

The NP208 is NOT weak as many think. It's just no a bullet proof unit. I'm sure the reason for the NP208, is the gubment was more concerned with a deeper crawl ratio which the NP208 does, where the NP203 and NP205 are pisspoor in the crawl ratio area.

That's what everyone tells me, but I have 2 parts trucks with bad 208's. One has a broken chain and the other has a giant hole in the side of it.:Grenade:
My GMC just had the 208 replaced a couple years ago when my cousin still had it because it blew apart going down the highway. And I helped a buddy change one in his dad's pickup last fall because it stretched the chain.

I will say that I've never personally had a problem with one. :shrug:

I always assumed because they wanted the same drivetrain as found in the m1009. More parts that could be swapped if needed.
