That seems to be a popular thing to do and I have never understood why...I suppose because they're cheap
I guess but you can get a 350 cheap, too, and they already had one IN the truck they could have just done a rebuild on I think there is a perceived MPG gain with the 305 that isn't always necessarily true and not to mention there's usually a drastic power output difference especially in the '70's
