I hope this thing stays for sale long enough for me to grab it! I bought one in 04 and still kick myself for not getting it running.

Honestly, I don't call that a sandrail. I call that a dune buggy. If it's a rear engine VW or Corvair powertrain, it's a dune buddy. A sandrail is usually a front engine V8 with an axle in the back. Might even be a independent rear suspension Corvette Axle, but nonetheless, Sandrails are usually much more than a rear engine dune buggy. Not saying a dune buggy is junk and that they can't haul ass, cuz built right they damn sure can haul ass. And just FYI, Corvair is a stronger transaxle than the VW. I'm fairly certain I've heard of guys using an adapter to go from a VW motor to a Corvair transaxle, cuz the VW parts are more plentiful, more options, and cheap to mod.

I think that's to much for the CUCV. I've seen them in better shape for $3500-$4000. Many sellers of those CUCV's are buying them in lots of 10 for about $2000-$2300 a piece then selling them for a $1000 - $1500 profit. I've often thought of getting a pool of guys here together and all of us as a group bid on a lot of 10 then divy them up as fair to everyone as far as condition and the amount of cash someone paid. I'd like to have 2 myself at those prices. One for me, and one for resale to make some of my cash back. It would be cool to get 2 for $4600, then sell one for $3500 then I got mine for $1100. That's the way I like to roll. :grd:

If you havent noticed he lowered the price on it too.

I just think it's in rough shape for that kind of money, but he's getting more reasonable for sure. Get him down to $2500 and I'd be considering it. MIght even go $2800 if I wanted it bad enough.

IMO, that's more of a glorified parts truck considering it's overall shape but definitely has some nice parts on it being a CUCV.

Kinda of what I'm thnking, but it does still have potential to be rescued in the right hands and alot of sweat equity type work since most of the repairs to get into fair condition probably won't cost much. Just lots of time and energy. And notice he shows no interior pics. Doesn't mention the motor. Although 52K is lower miles. I've seen these CUCV's come out in groves with 30K on them, and a few still down in the teens. So he's bought it, driven it a few years, now more work than he wants to deal with and selling it, is my guess.

Is it still behind this persons house? If you tell me they scrapped it I will go punch a hole in my wall.

Seriously, will drive to Kansas with a car trailer for my own 454SS. Retro was teasing the **** out of me with one a while ago he had in Texas. I had my cousin Keefer on standby with a car trailer, even had my wife talked into it......:roflbow:

I did not exactly talk her into anything, I just explained that if its a 454SS truck or a Delorean I can afford I CANT NOT buy it.

Last I saw it was sitting out in front of his house and the front clip was no where to be found. I'm guessing the tard parted it out. :shitsweak:

I have always herd them called rails, Vdub powered or not. I have never seen a front engine sand rail of any kind, I have seen mid engine V8's in what they call "sand limo's" or "sand cars". Those cost BIG MANS MONEY, usually these are V8 powered 4 seater long travel equipped with a **** load of chrome and custom paint jobs. Example:
http://tucson.craigslist.org/for/3017271247.html

Most sand rails I have seen are just VW suspension retrofitted to a tube chassis. The last one I picked up was 600 bucks without a motor. I see a ton of people driving them around here in Safford, they are actually peoples daily drivers!

Ohhh muther fugg. And it's OBO. I'd love to have those bitches !!! I bet he'd take $150 too. Shipping kills the deal or I'd have you go pick those up for me. I"m likely to end up having to go 8 lug anyway.

If **** pans out I am going to go snag those, they will look good on something.

I would LOVE to have a street legal sand rail/dune buggy to drive around. not as a DD but just for fun around town. It wouldn't take much of an engine to make those things pretty peppy considering how light they are.

I wonder how hard it is to get one of those things to pass inspection  What guidelines do they use and do they have a VIN?
