ehhhh, maybe $50. I know I'm a cheap ass. Any good core for $100 is fair. But, I know the 88-92's are more sought after and better. The 87 is better than the 82-86 for certain, so it's not a bad deal if you need a 4x4 core. And that should be a K case too. If I needed one and it was 88-92 I'd say pay up to $100, but I won't pay over $50 for one. I've bought many cores for $25 each, even 88-92 700r4's. But that wasn't a K case 4x4. It was 2wd. I did pay $100 for an 89 700r4 married to an NP241C then sold the NP241C for $100, net FREE 89 700r4 K case core, and it ran. The guy just upgraded to a Th400/NP205 was all. :grd:

Hell, I'd keep the truck. Just put a gas engine in it and you're right. For being in CA, put you a biggo honkin ass cam, no cats, no egr, smog the place up just cuz you can. I'd rock it. There are many advantages to a diesel truck that most don't think about. Like dual battery trays, even with gas you can run dual batteries for all your lights, sound system, hydro boost brake booster so you can run a biggo cam since you won't need to worry about vacuum, no smog checks of course, no cats needed, diesels also have hard plastic on the firewall with more insulation for sound deadening and keeping the heat out of the passenger compartment, so you have a quieter cab and actually cooler too. If it's a 4 speed manual, yes it should be an NP205 and the good NP205 with a bolt on yoke, not a slip yoke. $400 for a complete truck is a steal even if it's not running. If it's complete then you have all you need as far as cores, bolts' brackets etc. Normally I'd say rock the diesel and fix it, but you're in CA, so smog it up. Go gas and go big and smoggy. Make you a powerhouse street/offraod wheeler with it.

i had a long bed 4 speed a few years back, id really like to fix it up but im going to use the cab on my stepside, and go crazy on a motor when i have the funds.
i had to oull the diesel motor out for the PO in order for him to let the truck go cheap, he had already pulled off the banks turbo and sold it
... my brother wants the axles so its getting torn apart.
i didnt know the diesel cabs were different, good to know, thanks

Its not that they are different but they are not regulated by the smog laws of Cali. So any motor in them is legal.

All day long Brah, jump on that ****. NP205 and Th350, shortbed?? You have to ask??? Hell, I'd even try $250, but I'd be buying it for $300 in a heartbeat. 77 is transition year, could either be D44 or 10 bolt front. You'd get your money back in the axles alone if it were 3.42, 3.73 or 4.10 gears.
