Almost certain you could get a 5 speed in coupe and sedan, GA and GP.

I know for a fact, one of the 2, leaning more towards GP, that one of them you could only get a 5 speed in a 2 door. Maybe around the 2000-2003ish era.

Also another tib bit, you know the GP in that boddy style, the 97-2003, did you know the 2 door actually has more leg room in the back seat than a 4 DOE??? It's true.

Wouldnt surprise me any with the legroom. A lot of 4 door cars get more trunk space so you loose some legroom for more storage with the thinking with more people in the care you need more storage.

It's not done on purpose, not sure that idea ever comes into mind when R&D autos. It has to do with door post locations is why the 2 door ends up more legroom. It's only like 1 1/2 to 2 inches more, but nonetheless, it's more in a GP 2 door in those years.

No GP came with a 5 speed after 1993. You could get it in a 2 door or a 4 door.

We just had an 03 GA sedan in the shop with a 5 speed.

Hmmm, how about special order??? We had this discussion at the Pontiac dealer in 2002. A customer was wanting a manual transmission in a 4 door. After research, he was told only way it could be ordered even was in a 2 door. I'm wanting to say it was GP, but it could have been GA. But you're saying you can get 5 speed in either 2 or 4 door in a GA.

You couldn't get the v6 with a 5 speed in a Grand Am. Ever. Otherwise any 4 cylinder Grand Am came with the 5 speed standard, be it Ecotech or Twin Cam.

None after '93 even with the 3.4 DOHC? Does that go for the Chevy and Olds too?

I dunno, I'll take your word for it. Maybe our Sales Manager said this just to tell him something. I was certain, the # of doors were a factor in ordering a 5 speed. Could it have been a GA with a v6 was only available in a 2 door???

Lots of basic 4 door GA's with V6 too.

Lots of car salesmen don't actually know what they are selling or what is actually available. For example, a friend of mine bought an '86 Firebird new (he ordered it). He wanted a 5 speed, and he got just the V6 because they told him you couldn't get a 5 speed behind a V8. Well you actually could, behind the carbed 305, just not the TPI 305 (but then in '87 you could).

Then I was with a buddy when he was buying a new '07 Aura and the salesman told us there were no plug wires to go bad... even though I was looking right at them.

A guy I work with bought a new '09 Impala, that salesman tried to tell him there was no difference between a factory sunroof and an aftermarket sunroof. He said the factory just sawed a hole in a regular roof... yeah, OK buddy.

Most Grand Ams came with V6s. 2 and 4 door.

Like Andy said, most salesmen are morons. I haven't come across many that have ever done their homework. I borrowed my buddy's Turbo Grand Prix once and went to a local Pontiac dealer...There were salesmen there that had been there for 25-30 years and never knew the Grand Prix was offered with a turbo from the factory.

At any rate, glad to be corrected and not talking **** out my ass forever. I'll admit looking back, the asst sales manager that said this, and said this a group of us in meeting when he said, Jays customer last night came in wanting a 5 speed and we could only special order....., was a POS and a liar I know for a fact on a few things, but not gonna spit on his grave now, may he RIP. Died of a heartattack on the sales floor getting in a customers face that was unhappy about a lie he was told by this guy. I'd say he paid dearly for his lying. Sad part was, the customer felt horrible over it, but the dealership gave him what he wanted and said, well it boils down to his word vs yours and he isn't with us any longer, so here you go. The customer didn't even want it at the point. Talking about a $500 rebate that the customer actually didn't qualify for due to the county he lived in. It was disaster rebate for counties that got hit by a tornado. The sales manager told him he gets it, not realizing the guy was from outside the county.

Not a bad deal really if you were wanting an NV4500 conversion. Take the trans and other minor parts, scrap the rest and you end up with about $200 in scrap. I'd offer $500 though. And do keep in mind, for a GMT400 body, the Tcase is a Driver side drop, not passenger side which is used in squares. But still, a 241C or NP208 ps drop should still fit the same adapter. But it for $500, get $200 in scrap, and sell the ds drop 241. Also the 14b Full Float would sell too for about $150-$200. You could potentially end up with your NV4500 for FREE.

Thats what i was thinking. Sell the rattle trap under the hood and scrap the rest. Id save the 14ff and the trans and related stuff for the trans. Are the bellhousings for the 6.5 and the 5.7 the same?
