Hell, I'd keep the truck. Just put a gas engine in it and you're right. For being in CA, put you a biggo honkin ass cam, no cats, no egr, smog the place up just cuz you can. I'd rock it. There are many advantages to a diesel truck that most don't think about. Like dual battery trays, even with gas you can run dual batteries for all your lights, sound system, hydro boost brake booster so you can run a biggo cam since you won't need to worry about vacuum, no smog checks of course, no cats needed, diesels also have hard plastic on the firewall with more insulation for sound deadening and keeping the heat out of the passenger compartment, so you have a quieter cab and actually cooler too. If it's a 4 speed manual, yes it should be an NP205 and the good NP205 with a bolt on yoke, not a slip yoke. $400 for a complete truck is a steal even if it's not running. If it's complete then you have all you need as far as cores, bolts' brackets etc. Normally I'd say rock the diesel and fix it, but you're in CA, so smog it up. Go gas and go big and smoggy. Make you a powerhouse street/offraod wheeler with it.
