yeah I know what you meant and I think that's covered up by my dash pad but I don't even remember seeing one there. I've got this plate that's riveted into my door jam with the VIN on it, though

I know my old dodges had them there, I nver looked at my Burb though. Maybe that's just a Dodge thang, lol.

I do like the box style caprices! My mom had 2 of them growing up. Back then I hated them but I like them now and think they are a good lookin' car in original form. They even look cool with some nice rallies on them

Yeah, I'm not sure when they started but I do know that GM puts them on the dash now but not sure when they switched over. It very well could be in the 80's sometime Retro or HRPC probably know....

What about the windshield VIN, that get replaced too?

I am pretty sure you leave the windshield VIN to the cab, and frame VIN in tact. They just rivet a new VIN in the door post that supercedes the other 2. It's likey the law that you have to leave that windshiled VIN in place too. If a peace officer pulls up the windshield VIN, it will default to the NEW VIN, and then he'd know to check the door post too.

My mom's were both 305s. Was not fast by any stretch of the imagination but road nice and comfy.

I don't even think mine has a windshield vin I'll have to go home and look now. If I do, it's been covered up by my dash pad ...

'78 was the first year for the windshield VIN in the GM trucks.
