I read about the rivets a little on a previous forum, they are definitely a security feature. I think if you try to drill them out they just spin, they are also fragile. Some I have seen look like normal rivet heads though. If you are really carefull you could just cut a square around the vin, set it in place of the vin your changing out to and tac weld it in place. With the dash pad in place you should be completely in the clear.......

I doubt anyone would investigate into it very much since its just a Blazer, if you tried it with say a 69 camaro in great shape they might check to make sure everything is legitimate.

Most likely just as easy and 100% legal to just get a title for it.

89S: My friend sent me this:

The PA Notary, has a form for that. I think it's expensive though, and takes some time to get a new title for the vehicle. We didn't want to bother with the lengthy costly process so found a different car. But to answer your question, yes it can be done.

IN OK, you can usually find a notary person that will do you a Title 42 for $100. I happen to know a tag agent lady that works at a new car stealership in the the Title office and she knows how to do Title 42's and does them for side money for $50 each. So that is who I am using to get my title for my 88 Burb. Should be back anyday now. Its been right at 6 weeks now.

I found a box of the rosette rivets under the seat of a truck at a junkyard once. The had probably been there since the factory.

They are still available at certain places.

You still got those dudes??? I could sure use a few. In multiples of 2 of course. :Moon:

The title 42 sounds like the "abandoned title" I got for my little orange Dodge Colt through Nm. I had the car basically restored by the time I got around to registering it, we spent about 50 on the whole ordeal. Once the report showed the car was not stolen we got a brand new title.

The welding in the piece might be the better option. What I wonder, is I have seen some squarebodies with a 95 dash. I like that dash and considered it myself, so that makes me wonder how you'd handle the VIN in that situation. But yeah, that idea of cutting out a bigger square and patching it in just like you would a piece of rust repair panel.

Basicly that is exactly what it is. The vehicle is abadoned and you want title for it. Its what impound yards do to get title so they can auction sell the vehicles that are not claimed.

Thinking more into it, you would defiantly have to remove your wind sheild and dash pad to do it, I am not sure you could get a small cut off wheel that close to the roof pillar. If you could manage to hack out your replacement vin from a clear title you could just epoxy the entire piece of metal and tag over the existing one and no one would know any different once the dash pad is in place.

I wonder if I can slap my Burban VIN on that, lol.....

 I know you're kidding but a burb tag on a K5 would be WAY too easy to snuff out :D

Swapping VIN's is an illegal option. Does it happen? Sure it does. The VIN # on these squarebodies is stamped in the frame.

I did not know that! So when you see a lot of folks doing cab swaps does that mean they're doing something illegal there since the vin on the donor cab would be different than that of the frame? I see it pretty often so I'm going to assume not but maybe it is illegal and most people just don't realize it....
