for the past 2 years I've seen axles like this (looks to be the same seller as well). Provided all it needs is bearings this an ok deal? From what I understand, changing the bearings are fairly easy compared to changing the gearing. Looking to get rid of the 3.08 ratio I've got now. Prefer 4.10/11.

Found another one. Not sure if it's the pair for $400 or not. I'm looking at the 6 lug early 80's axles. Same questions as above.

Those prices are a bit steep. Half ton axles can often be found for around $75 each (front or rear). Axles in known good condition with good brakes can cost more, but not too much.

I'd love to find a small journal 327 for next to nothing. Large journal 327 is just a destroked 350, but a small journal comes with a forged steel crank and they will spin a ton or rpm quick.

For the price most are asking, you can make a 383 spin to the moon and make more power. I am semi interested in a 327 because that is what my car originally had.

True, last one I seen on CL, buy wanted $800 for a rebuildable core amd that was Power Pak heads, not Fuelie heads.

And only a 327 at that. Pretty much an $800 truck.....maybe

Old77 -

I have no idea why you think that would be an $800 dollar truck. Yes, the SEAT needs work and it needs paint. The engine/transmission alone make it worth at least $1500-$2000. From the look, that truck has no rust, so good body.

What I am seeing:

Clean lines, no rust.
Complete interior (seat is a mess, but that is not a huge deal)
New Engine.
New Transmission/drive chain.
Needs paint.

Looks like he put some work into it, and would be pretty insulted by "I'll give you $800 for it", probably has more than that in just the engine/transmission. $3500 is a reasonably fair price. Put a few more grand into a good paint job and a some cosmetics, upholster the seat, and I think he could get $8,000-10,000 for it.

Just because it ain't shiny doesn't mean it is not worth money.

As for the second truck listed, I don't understand why 87ChevyR10 thinks it is "Just a Title", but I see enough there to at least dicker with the guy over. Probably try to get him under a grand, maybe half that, or $400. But just a title, nah. Sounds like that is something you don't want to buy. Me, I'd look at it, I need a good parts truck.

 granted, it's got "some work into it" but in the end it's a long bed truck that needs a lot of work to be nice. One thing that is a fact is long bed trucks are not highly sought after by most. I have a long bed and love it but most do not want one. Just because it's a "new" engine, trans,.... doesn't mean the truck as whole is now worth what was paid for those items.

Again, truck is worth $800 (maybe) in most parts of the country.

Unless this is your truck I'm not sure why it's even being debated :Insane:

It's the Needs TLC part that scary. Usually when I see that in an ad, it's a wore out POS.
