big block heads question

I have a set of 772 heads off an 83 427 tall deck and im wondering if I should have them rebuilt and the bigger valves in them, or spend the extra money on 781 heads?

It really depends on your goals. Will this be a work truck , drags only, or something in between ? How big of an engine will these be on ? Auto trans, heavy truck ?

In my opinion if you are doing a low dollar build I always use the early model semi closed chamber big oval port heads , brings the compression up and they and they are torque monsters , and you can port and put bigger valves in them if you want , work very well in a truck , (ls-5 and l-35 , 290 , 063 , 280 , 290). They are not the best flowing but compression is power and they are good for a pretty stockish 454 and will punch out 450 hp with little effort.

The heads are going back on the 427 tall deck. That I am going to put in a 79 K25 with the sm465, np205, with 4.10 gears. And the truck is just a work truck nothing else. I'm going to use it to cut fire wood and pull a gooseneck. So the horsepower would be nice but I mainly what the torque.
