FWIW the gmt400 trucks do drive really well. That price is about right for my area anyway

Ya, my dad had both a 97 and a 98 pickup. The 97 was 2wd and was a way better truck than the 98. The brakes were horrible and no matter what was done to it they still sucked.

I realize book values don't mean anything, but I could see up to 3k for that 96, since even book for condition says "no rust"

I think I might call on that one this afternoon

Those 5.3 run forever I've seen a lot of the earlier 2000s with 300k no grant issues 4wd unit every now and then but that's about it

I was originally looking for a gmt400 but settled on the 2004. Wish I would have waited for the right gmt400 to come up. Just hard to find a solid one up here. In all I like the 04 just having trouble with the emissions at the moment.

Yeah, I've had several GMT400s (both 2wd and 4wd) and loved them all. They are my second favorite generation of GM truck right behind the square.

There are a lot of GMT800 fans out there, but I definitely like the 400 platform better by a pretty fair distance over the 800 for several reasons. If you can get that '04 back up to snuff you'll probably fall in love with it. But the road to get there may be a frustrating one

They define no rust differently than me I guess... Just waiting for the owner so i can check out the interior. But there is rust forming on the rockers just in front of the rear tires

I have been forced to redefine "no rust" as well. Now it means you can't see the road through the floor instead of what the phrase implies.

I'd be irritated if someone described something as rust free only to find that there was in fact rust on the rockers or the fenders or something. To me, rust free should be rust free regardless if it's on the body, frame, whatever....If it's a rust free body but there's some surface rust on the frame then just say so. If it's "mostly rust free" but there is some rust on the rockers then describe it that way but don't go around saying rust free when it's not. That's just irritating and would probably irritate me enough to make me walk away unless a killer deal is made.
