Oh good...gives me time to drive up and buy it before you do :insane:

What if you sent them a deposit or had someone put a deposit down for you??

it is an option, but i haven't test driven (eh, whatever, 81,000 miles!) and don't think a deposit helps me in the price negotiation standpoint, otherwise i would

Hmm, didn't realize this but all (most?) Of the 00-06 can have head failures due to castech heads? Should I be worried?

Really? I didn't know that. Where do you read that? Is there a way for you to tell if the heads have been replaced prior to buying the vehicle?

from what i can tell you need to pull the valve cover and the rockers to see if the castech symbol is on the head. they aren't all clearly marked on the outside

i think i read about it on the "what to look out for" thread on the tahoeyukon forum. then lots of googling and there is a lot of failures. looks like at some point they will all fail. mostly the 706 heads (but w/o pulling the cover and rockers and inspecting, there is no way to know which 706 you have) 862 is safe i think but i'm not sure how many of those are out there.

truck is still there, so on friday i plan to get there early and start it up so i can watch for smoke and listen to it. if the dealer won't let me do that, i will walk

a little more research, that one has an L59 engine, or at least the VIN Z so it should.

not sure if it was all engines yet that could be prone to failure or just L33 or L59.

Well, FWIW my dad had an 04 Yukon for around 200k miles and never had any head issues and really never had any mechanical issues at all  not saying that the head issue doesn't exist because usually where there's smoke there's fire so I'd be on the lookout for it but I would double its "all of them" :)

Good luck on Friday. I'm anxious to hear what you find and if the dealer works with you on getting it purchased :)

I'm not sure how long this one has been on the lot, was only cleaned/ detailed last Friday right before I got there.

Trade in is like 10,8-11,5 kbb/nada
