Anyone ever seen or messed with a GM 4L30E?

The S10 and Hombre had several differences like the grille, headlights, fenders, bedsides and the rear bumper trim. The Passport was really identical to the Rodeo besides the emblems. Iirc, even the grille was the same?

I believe the Pup was simply an Isuzu. I never really kept after the little furrin trucks though.

Grill was the same, interior is the same.
It's basically just different badges. That's all

Yeah the differences are subtle for sure, but if you park the two side by side, half the sheetmetal is a different stamping.

Finished this up around 5 today.
Just waiting on a piece of exhaust to come in the mail from rock auto then I can put the trans in.

earlier you said 1st has its own section, perhaps its because the trans spends most time in 1st gear than any other gear, and if its meant to move weight or pull anything or be strong having that gear, which will do most of that work, stay cleaner or lubed better or just less wear so its last a long time?

Same vane how a lot of compacts with 5 speed manuals the 5th gear always seems to be worn out, its small trans and if its cruising above 35 it likely is using that gear, even if its not most used its the one susceptible to be worn the most? Idk how trans works, Im not an expert.

I owned an 86 Pup, for a small pickup, it was a great truck. That little 4 cyl would flat out run. I rebuilt the motor and then beat on it like a redhead stepchild. Ol girl never gave up... until I wrecked it

Im no expert myself.

First time I've messed with a 4l30e. I thought it was simliar in the inside like a 4l60e or 700r4.... Boy was I wrong.

It's intended for a grocery getter car. I tried to keep soft stacks on the clutch/steel plates so it don't slam thru gears. The 4L30E is essentially a fairly weak transmission. The weakest of the electronically controlled transmissions. People laugh at the 4L60E. I laughed at this. Clutch stacks, 2nd and 3rd gear drums were all pretty cheesy in comparison to a 700 or 4l60e.

This 3.2L is a fairly tough motor. She just puts around in it. Had it since she was 16.
We were at the brink of buying her a new 2012 or older crossover/suv, then the COVID stuff came out. So we made the choice to purchase all the goods to overhaul the transmission (it was the weakest and closest to failure).

I also ordered new valve cover gaskets and coil tube seals since I learned the valve covers were puking oil

Since shes out of work for 2 weeks (as of this past Monday) I figured it was my opportunity to pull the trans, rebuild it,

Started on the day I made this thread, April 1st.
Wrenched in it after work thru the week, today I rebuilt it.

Definitely not a bad transmission to deal with despite what I thought.

Oh. Right. Just thinking on it. I didn't give the downsides of this transmission.
There is NO dipstick.
The pan has a low and high side plug.
You add fluid from the pan on the high side.
You fill it up until it pukes out, then you know it's full.

What a pain!

We were at the brink of buying her a new 2012 or older crossover/suv, then the COVID stuff came out. So we made the choice to purchase all the goods to overhaul the transmission (it was the weakest and closest to failure).

good financial decision. too many people go buy cars with loans and have huge payments and say "i make enough each paycheck" and never think, what *if* you cant make that paycheck. hard to know. its why having an emergency fund paid and plump is good as well as living within means. I may not make a lot of money, I may have a lot of not-working cars and rusty buckets, but I own every last bit of it. The only thing Id have to worry about is gasoline, oil, food, water, and property taxes. And other necessities, but im talking worst case scenario.

My daily is a 99 park avenue. thing is rusty on one fender, hood has bad blemishes where it appears to have been incorrectly polished possibly, its got dents, scrapes, etc. But its got a rebuilt 20k miles ago trans, a motor that runs like a champ(leaky valve cover, exhaust.) but its got a brand new suspension and new tires. Its not going anywhere but where I drive it anytime soon, and its cheap to own/operate(relative, expensive for a sedan because its big, but economical compared to crossovers, large, old boats, trucks, etc)So other than 1200 line of credit for an unexpected house repair, Im sleeping well at night.

Very good decision. Once back to normal life, if there is such thing, the economy is gonna be in a crappy state. if you both hold safe, or secure jobs at that point its a great time because youd be stimulating economy and you could prob get a very very short term loan with all the money in hand even at a very very low rate, pay it off within a short frame(idk how short you can get) and boom you have a shiny gold star on your credit report. If you needed anything major that might need a loan in the next year or 2.
