Oh yeah, gotta take that stuff into consideration. We don't drive the truck much, and this is the first BB that I've finally gotten, so I'm having fun with it. For a daily driver I'm good with an escort or caravan... Lol.

Man, how long have you had the GN? Have you posted pics? I have 2 vehicles on my bucket list, that I have wanted for YEARS. A Countach, which have come down in price for the old ones. The other is a GN. Dang. One of the dudes in our cruising group had one. It was SO quiet. Sounded like a Cadillac. It also ran mid 10s in the quarter.... Amazing cars...

I sold my GN a few years ago and have already taken a fair share of crap for it on this site. There's plenty of them around, I might get back into one some day.

There's no coupler on ours. Only a female input shaft. The thrust bearing I'm referring to is in this picture. This article references a 75 Blazer NP203 so I wonder if there are some design changes in the 78. Ours definitely doesn't look like this. When we get to dropping the original, we'll double check everything.

We did the swap this weekend but I didn't' have a chance to drive it due to some TBI issues I'm working through. Interestingly the unit we took out did have the thrust washers and bearing like in the picture above. I did not transfer them over to the replacement unit because the end play felt pretty good in that unit. Since I had the complete gasket and seal kit, I replaced all three oil seals in the new unit. Once I get the truck running well I'll take it for a drive and report back.

Was able to take the truck for a drive. Get this....the unit the crotchety old salvage yard guy said he "guaranteed was unconverted" is a part time shaft converted NP203. I thought the output shaft to rear diff assembly looked different. Definitely no crown gears so not that crappy part time kit, but when I put it in the second position forward from rear (should be 4 Hi in stock unconverted mode) I can spin my rear one wheel wonder all day long. I pull shifter all the way back, and it locks all 4. This is of course with front hubs locked in. It doesn't pop out of gear so I am happy!
