Another NP203 Question

Yes 27 or 10 are your options, 10 being for standard only. I would have him pick up a set of seals for the adapter housing, should be a front and rear of the same size. I would have him get the shifter too since they are getting hard to find one that don't need disassembled and fixed up. I would also have him get the sleeve. They can get grooved like the harmonic balancer. You can have a machine shop weld it up on a rotating jig, then turn it down for a new seal surface.
Since no one else is gonna say it, I will... You forgot something....

There's definitely a BB in the future of his 84 short box. Gotta get this kids plow truck more dependable so he can generate cashflow.

Yeah, I have to admit that I think the same as Honkey Kong on the cubic inch deal. In high school I put a 500 inch caddy in my 70 Nova. The BB Chevy stuff was too expensive for me. Actually, it still is. Good thing my truck came with one, or I'd be running something like a 70's 305 or 307. Lol. (Not knocking those motors people!!!)....

I have a full seal kit left over from the TH350 rebuild. The guy told me at the time he couldn't buy the TC/Trans adaptor seal alone and had to buy the whole kit. That will come in handy now as the rear output shaft oil seal is hard as a rock. He was able to grab the shifter and linkage.

Not sure I follow you on the sleeve? What do you mean by that?

Also, I pulled the tailhousing off when he got home to inspect his work. It is a non-converted unit but I could tell at some point it had been opened up. Probably not surprising for something 40 years old. Anyway, it supposedly came out of a 78 which is what I wanted, but the pictures of my output shaft and where it meshes with the rear diff gear is different than the pictures in the thread I used for guidance.

See in my first pic there is more of a shoulder where the two gears mesh.

Second pic, there was no thrust washer or bearing riding on the short stub shaft where the output shaft rides. Is this a problem?

And last pic, I assume that speedo gear is toast?

Technically not a BB but lots of torque for not a lot of money. The 84 short box will get a punched 454 or 427 TD. The 84 will end up on stilts with big tires so gotta have plenty of torque to turn them.

For cars my GN ownership has me a fan of smaller displacement forced induction systems.

Oh yeah, gotta take that stuff into consideration. We don't drive the truck much, and this is the first BB that I've finally gotten, so I'm having fun with it. For a daily driver I'm good with an escort or caravan... Lol.

Man, how long have you had the GN? Have you posted pics? I have 2 vehicles on my bucket list, that I have wanted for YEARS. A Countach, which have come down in price for the old ones. The other is a GN. Dang. One of the dudes in our cruising group had one. It was SO quiet. Sounded like a Cadillac. It also ran mid 10s in the quarter.... Amazing cars...

There's no coupler on ours. Only a female input shaft. The thrust bearing I'm referring to is in this picture. This article references a 75 Blazer NP203 so I wonder if there are some design changes in the 78. Ours definitely doesn't look like this. When we get to dropping the original, we'll double check everything.
