It's a *195. Of course today my mechanic told me today I should take it out and put in a *160.Did you go with a 180 degree tstat?
He says that that GM made the heads those years thinner walled on purpose to hold more coolant and to run a hotter thermostat to get better on the sniffer. And in doing so you have the common head cracking issue on these motors. So I am going with a thicker walled, aftermarket replacement head and a cooler thermostat.

I think it is just the style valve or make of it. I noticed that too when I compared it to the old one, the old one was hanging down further, but the actual valve mechanisms looked different from each other, I should have taken comparison pics.If I'm, not mistaken, that EGR vavle looks stuck open to me. Usually the pintle will be below the mouting surface 1/4 inch or so, not flush or recessed like it is. Or is that just what I see in the pic?

Really? You need to fire your mechanic cuz he don't know his ass. You don't run a 160 or a 180. You run a 195 so you can get the computer into closed loop mode at 187-192 degrees.
