I turned the motor over by hand a few times to let the pistons come up and push that **** out, sprayed the entire top of the motor with a heavy coat of WD-40 and covered it up with cloth. I will check on it every night or two during the week to make sure I don't get that surface rust **** growing. :waytogo:

No turning back now !!! Didn't you replace those intake manifold gaskets not long ago??? Those gaskets look like hell for a recent change. I would not be using that brand ever again if I were you.
Or is it possibe that stop leak junk you used damaged the gaskets? Any signs of clogged up junk or damage so far from the Head Gasket repair in a bottle?
They were Mr. Gasket intake gaskets.

You can see some small clumps of **** here and there on the head gasket water ports and the ports in the head. Not solid, like a sludgy soft kind of ****. I am sure a good cooling system flush with a good cleaner will take a lot of that **** out. Another write up for another day.

I actually only used two of them and did one side at a time. I really like them alot. Great piece of mind. I just stuck them in there snug by hand and gave them an 1/8 to 1/4 turn to snug them and then unbolted the manifolds, and thet didn't get in the way at all.

A big shout out to animal, yes, this can be done without removing the manifolds from the Y-pipe. :High 5: The only head bolt I needed a swivel to get to was the very front bottom one.

We are back to cold, cloudy and windy here again, guess I'll be under the hood again prepping for next weeekend. I stil got a lot of scraping and cleaning and thread chasing to do and I also need to get the new to me intake manifold ready for the install. I need to run out and pick up some never sieze too, and new oil and filter. I didn't realize I was out. And I can start putting the power steering brackest and alternator back on the driver's side. I really am miffed I can't finish this up today.

The Casting number of the head, is it located under the valve cover between the 2 sets if rocker arm mounts? I found a number 14102183. Does that sound right?

sounds about right, i was screwing around on carparts.com looking for a head that would fit your truck, found them as cheap as 50 dollars from a salvage yard

This is all I could find close to that number:

14101083 350 285HP, or 300HP, Crate Motor, 1.94-1.5, 72º intake bolts
14102193 305, 350, 87-up, 7 bolt ex.

You sure the 8 isn't a 9?

@ towman: thanks, I'll check it out tomorrow.

@ C4: I could be wrong, I got bad eyes and it was really sludged up. I took a digital pic of the number and I'll post it up. Appreciate the help.

@ old: luckily my brother, who helped me dig into this project, will let me borrow his '01 Chevy when I need it. I drove it a few days, it's a nice truck, but I really miss muh Burb. :sad72:

:waytogo: cool man! I'm really looking forward to this thing being on the road again. It'll feel like a brand new rig again:) Then you can start attacking rust again and getting her looking even better :High 5:
