Hey yall new guy here from Wake Co. NC!! While I am new to this forum I certainly am not new to the 70s world of Chevy trucks!!. Anyway I'll start my intro/build thread soon full of juicy (possibly unnecessary) details gearheads love to hear but for now I'll start with this. Purchased a 77 k10 today and I need to replace the 700r4 transmission (with a th350), the front axle, and I want to get rid of the all time 4x4 NP203 and replace it with the NP205.

SO... what do yall think is it worth it going through the trouble with all the shifter adapting, driveshaft shortening, hub installing fun??? oh and the engine runs like a seasoned stallion (Amazing but needing the proper motivation) :beatdeadhorse5:

Howdy!

It's probably best to check out what you have first. What year is the TH350? A 70's 4x4 unit will bolt right to a 27 spline np205 setup with the right adapter. How are the slip joints in the shafts? If they are shot, you would end up replacing shafts anyway.

I say go for it. Gather parts and after a while you'll have all you need. If the 203 has the front output yoke (instead of double cardan joint) you'll want to hang onto that. Also shortening driveshafts isn't nearly as expensive as lengthening, since the whole tube needs replaced.

Well, that guy hasn't logged into this forum since 2013.... so i'd say you aren't likely to ever find out
