Picked up a 69 C10 this weekend to go along with my 77 K10. Yes it’s a long bed, I can live with that since it’s in good shape for a 69. I really like it’s patina, so a short bed conversion would end up ruining that. Not to mention, a long to short bed conversion can be pricey. It will need cab corners and rockers on both sides, most trucks of this vintage do. Not sure what direction I want to go with it yet. It has a 350, (not running) and 3 spd standard trans. Thinking for starters I will make it run/drive/stop and drive it as is for awhile. Then down the road do a full frame off with LS conversion. Only time will tell.

The longbed will ride better as well.

I have never named a vehicle before, but I suggested to my wife that we should call this truck Pig Pen. She failed to see the humor in that.

This truck has sat for over 4 years. I spent some time yesterday doing some forensic diagnostics. Found the purple starter wire had shorted out against the exhaust manifold and was burnt to a crisp. I fixed that and moved on to the normal things one does before cranking an engine that has sat. Oil and filter change, new plugs, removed old points distributor, primed the oil pump, installed an HEI distributor, replaced the carb, then ran a fuel to a can of gas. With just a quick splash of gas down the carb it cranked right up and ran great!! I wanted to go ripping around my yard but the truck had no brakes. Over all it was a great day.

Built a cover off the back of my shop to store the 69 until I have room in the shop for it.

When I found my truck (or it found me) I wasn't looking for a truck. The price got me. Friend of the family was moving (original owner, small landscaping business) and offered it to me for "8" I said 8 thousand?!?, they said hundred... Oh, Looking at wife, wife said we'll take it..Its a longbed. Stripper (Only power steering, 6 cylinder, Hurst three on floor) with 70-80000 miles (instruments were stolen, but CArfax shows all service since new). I put a clutch in it, and a few more items. Very happy with "Ralph"

I personally favor longbeds over shortbeds. Given the choice, I’d take a longbed no matter the resale value.
Ya, me too.

I can haul more stuff in a long bed.

Lee, That sounds just like my story. I met a couple that lived in Portland in the early 2000's, his rig was a 1984 C20. I never paid to much attention to it, but I knew it had a dump kit on the factory box, and I knew he bought it in the mid-90's. IDK around 08 or 09 I pretty much lost touch with them. Then about 4 years ago another friend of mine mentioned he had passed away. I called her to offer condolences, she said she was moving out of state and had stuff to get rid of one of which was the truck, for $800. Hadn't been run much in the prior few years but ran 6 months ago. We went down I charged the battery fired it off and drove it 100 miles home. I was starting to think about getting a full size truck, but had not looked at all. I knew I was getting a deal but did not realize how good of a deal.

Pulled the radiator today, of course it’s bad. Lower radiator hose was about to blow due to rubbing on the frame. Battery tray is rotted out and need to be replaced. I did have the fuel tank removed to clean it and put a new sending unit in it. The deeper I get into it the more stuff I find. Oh well, so what if it takes a bit longer to get on the road, truck is still cool as heck.
