So I went to my bolt bin in the garage and got a 1/4" x 1" coarse thread hex head bolt and installed it and now I can mount the heat shield. :waytogo:

Here is the instructions for the shim kit and the tool and shims. I mounted starter and checked the clearance with the supplied tool and there was a little fraction of play in it. That tool is slid between the the teeth on the flywheel and the starter pinion shaft to check clearance.

It was very close so I used a half shim on the outboard bolt to tilt the starter towards the flywheel .015". The tool then would fit snug, but too snug for my liking, so I wound up not using any shims at all. :shitsweak:

Ok, I seen some rusty exhaust manifolds but those beat them all in rust. Those are even ruster than 390 4bbl intake I got that sitting outside in trunk of a car for who knows how long.

Be very careful if you have the stock cable with the locating tabs built into it. This must go on first and must be postioned properly to match the recesses in the face of the stud base on the soleniod. If not aligned it can cause the stud to lean and crack the housing when tighetning the nut. Then the red wire with the fusible link goes on over top of the cable, then the lockwasher and nut. You can see in the last pic how the locating tab on the battery cable fits into the soleniod body.

After that is all done I coated all the connections with battery protector to seal and prevent corrosion. :waytogo:
