Threw it in a bucket with some gloves and off to Auto Zone for a new one. Took the old starter off to bring with me because you like to match the parts and also the core charge is $15.00. Lifetime rebuilt starter was $45 plus the core. Brought the bucket for easy transport and they usuaally keep the box from the new starter to put the core into. Got the new one on the bucket and headed back to the ranch.

Complete dog crap! I've replaced a few starters in my time (all GM's) and never shimmed a one of them!

I followed the directions on the install for measuring and I didn't need to shim after all, lol. :roflbow:

I could have had this done in half the time, lol. :suicide:

the solenoid bolt/nut for the small wire is usually 1/4 socket. I saw you had trouble figureing out a size, but over the years it's hard to say what ppl throw on.

FYI, the old starters like for an 85 monte carlo, 76 c10 and 84 c10, as well as my 88 k1500, all the same starter, staggered bolt pattern, same long length bolts.

I only had to shim one starter in my life, and only removed one starter with shims. I left them out on that one, but on the monte carlo I had to shim it. it made noise so I shimmed it, was alot quieter then.

My starter went out the other day, but I had another one out of my 84 with an 87 tbi motor. I didnt have to remove anything but my knock sensor wire... just because it was in the way. I dropped the old one out and put the new one in, in literally 5 minutes.

Ok, back to work here. When I got the starter I got one of those reward zone cards. Every $20+ you spned a trip, you get a point. 5 points gives you $20 of play money. :High 5:
