Don’t know much about gearing but I will be putting at least 35in tires on a 4inch lift k10, looking for recommendations on what companies make good 4:10 gears.

You installing a locking diff? If it were me, I would just get a complete junk yard axle that has a factory LSD. Is your rig a 4x4?

OP said k10, so 4x4.

If you aren’t doing the work yourself, I’d find the shop that’s doing it first. They’ll have a supplier they like to use that should have a few options. That way there are less questions if they need to warranty the work.

Otherwise, there are several options that’ll work manufacturer-wise.

Rigid axle seems to make a pretty decent priced one just don’t know how reliable that brand is

@Rjckey do you have an overdrive transmission? If yes, I'd go with 4.56's (I used this combo in my old crew cab, it drove great). If you do not have overdrive, 4.10's are a little less than idea but not horrible and livable at highway speeds.

When i still had 31" tires, I wish I had put 4.10 gears on it. Now I'm on 32's....really wishing I did. 4l60E in mine. You go up to 35's, you may feel the same. Put your info in the calculator below to help make a decision. Also below is a sample chart to help you decide.

Gotcha.

Personally, I'd go deep on the gears because parts are too expensive to wish you had done more when it's done. If you're not traveling, etc then no harm / no foul on deeper gears.

Also, if you think even remotely think you would ever go to a bigger size tire then factor that into the decision too.

For the gears themselves, look into Revolution Gear and Axle. @TotalyHucked just installed a set into his GMT800 (still a 10 bolt) and they patterned up nicely and quiet.

They are 2 cut gears, not 5 cut, so they will pattern a little differently than the old 5 cut gears. Just to note as most information on gear patterns is based on 5 cut.

Spencer is right. I'd never tackled a re-gear/axle rebuild before and decided to re-gear my '05 Silverado. I ordered the kit from Quick Performance that comes with a Yukon Duragrip, your choice of gear ratio and all the bearings/seals/races for like $550. I ordered that same kit for my C10 5 years ago and it came with Richmond gears, it's served me well other than a minor hum on decel at low speed. I didn't do the work but the guy that did didn't have any issues.

I should've known when the price was no different 5 years on that something had changed. It showed up with USA Standard gears, which I have come to learn are bottom of the barrel. I wasted several weeks struggling with it, I'd get what I thought was a good pattern, put everything together and drive the truck and it would make noise. Finally, after talking to Spencer and several other people, we decided it was the gearset.

I did some research and found nothing but good things about Revolution Gear and Axle. The guy that started it used to work for Superior Axle and several other well known, quality companies back in the day. They do 2-cut gears like the factory ones were (vs a 5-cut of other aftermarket gears) with a good heat treatment and lapping process. Turns out 2-cuts are much easier to read patterns, easier to set up and run quieter. I took my time with these playing with different setups and learning, but after 5 or so days, the first setup I decided to run on was quiet as a mouse. I highly recommend Revolution gears. They also sell bearing/race/seal kits, so it's a one stop shop. While you're in there, I'd definitely suggest getting a quality posi or locker.

Revolution looks like quality stuff, but they don’t offer anything under 1988’ or less than a 4:10. Any other companies you would suggest for an 85’ K10??

I put 4:10 gears in my '83 K10 which has a 0.73 O/D w/ 31" tires.
It plows and hauls wood like a beast but rev's a bit on the highway. Speed limit was 55 MPH back in the day when I re-geared it.

but on those interstate hills/MT's you probably still have gear and it's not searching as much. Kinda hard to decipher not knowing ur ups/lows and driving habits. LOL I hate the "passing" gear, I'd just assume put it in 3rd until I'm ready for OD.

Speaking of keeping up speed, I need to put the brush guard back on the front. The Ohian's tend to freak out when they see it on their arse and get out of the way.
