but on those interstate hills/MT's you probably still have gear and it's not searching as much.
Exactly, I used to be constantly downshifting the MT on interstate hills before regearing. The original 3.08 gears were hideous. I was slipping my clutch to prevent stalling from a dead stop on steep hills with a light load. The emissions from that era choked HP which didn't help.

wow....bad memories....mine came with 3.08. 3rd even sucked lol.

The only thing I miss from 3.08 gears was second gear pulled hard over a much wider range, like 15 MPH to 40 MPH. So in traffic now I need to shift more. Second gear winds up pretty fast but it's a work truck not a race car.
