Building a motor will always be WAYYYY more money than if you just get a crate motor.

Yes building a motor can be fun.. but realistically... think of how much you want to spend.

And see, i dont agree with that.
If you know what you are doing and have connections to certain parts, I can always build an engine cheeper than the equal crate.

agreed, thats why crate engines are so cheep. they have connections and order in bulk, then add on a slight profit fee.

But with all the machining and parts, I come in under their prices. But I reuse the crank if its up to the job.

Yeah, they crank out those 350/260 crate engines like potato chips, that's why they're so cheap. $1500 delivered. Hard to beat for a solid bottom end and a new block with clean passages and new bearings/rings/timing set/oil pump/lifters, all clean and shiny and new. The cam dictates performance and the heads dictate breathing, swap them out and you can make about anything you want. Build it up, paint it if you want, like Chevy orange, and you're there with a minimum of fuss.

All you really need is a cheap engine stand and some decent wrenches.

I dunno I used to think it was fun building them but honestly its more fun stepping on the throttle and you cant do that when its in pieces on your work bench

Swapping in a cam is the most exciting I think cause you can do it in a day or less and get to immediately go and notice the difference while burning lots of fuel

And then realize the costs involved with new tires

Why not? Not enough power? Air flow?

This^^^ is the reason for detonation. The chamber size is smaller and leaves a "flange" around the block cylinder bore that is where the hot spots create detonation :-(.

Sent from the dust in front of you!
