So I learned a early 90s jeep cherokee steering shaft fits 88-94 gm trucks so I put one in my 92 gmc, then I got to looking at the shaft in the camaro and it looks very similar so I got another jeep shaft and sure enough it fits the camaro as well. I bet the jeep steering shaft will work in our squares as well so if you want to ditch the rag joint and go to a double u joint shaft on the cheep, it's worth looking into.

Actually it's a common mod for our trucks. I learned about it nearly 20 years ago.

Plastic liner?

In stock form, before anyone has messed with them, the two halves do not telescope freely. They are just designed to collapse in a crash. Generally to use them in another vehicle, the plastic/nylon stuff that's injected in at the factory needs dealt with so it can telescope easily for installation.

The 2 I ordered didn't have that, they did have a couple dimples in them that made them tight. I took them apart and ground the inside of the outer tube where the dimples were.

Gonna have to use this ugly air cleaner for now, my 14 inch drop base hits the float adjusters.

Careful with that. If the carb ever backfires, very quickly pop the hood and extinguish the flames that will likely be coming from the foam element. You don't want to burn that car down.

Also, it's very common for a drop base air cleaner to have clearance bumps for the Holley float adjusters. I'd highly recommend picking one up.

Those Edelbrock foam air cleaners disintegrate upon the first backfire! I love seeing that big iron squeezed between the Fbody fenders though! Keep the pics coming.

I love these older Z's.

Curious: when you swap a BB into one, do you have to change the front suspension at all for the extra weight? Or is it close enough?

change the front suspension
I have the Hotchkis BB kit on my 72. It lowers the car an additional inch while providing the rate for the big block swap. I did the change almost 20 years ago and just over a year ago I added the bolt in frame connectors and swapped to billet body/subframe bushings. It rides like it's on rails now.
