Top picture is my '83 K5 crossmember. It has the curved ends and winged flanges, like shown in the post above.

Bottom picture is my '77 K5 crossmember. It has the curved ends, with smoother flanges, similar to my '79 K30 with straight ends. My old '77 K5 had two of these crossmembers, one to support the t-case and front of the skidplate, the second simply supported the rear of the skidplate.

So if I'm wrong, someone correct me, but I think it goes like this:

'73-'76 flat style crossmember that wraps around frame rails, similar to 2wd.

'77-'80 flat style crossmember that bolts to bottom of frame rails, K30 version having straight ends.

'81-84 flat style crossmember with winged flanges.

'85-'86 "W" crossmember, same unit for all series.

'87-'91 wavey or "S" crossmember, same unit for all series.

'73-'84 style used "tall" adapter with two rubber mounts.

'85-'91 style used "short" adapter with single rubber mount.

It's an '84 cucv. Probably not the best example of what the factory used on the civilian trucks, but the x-member on it is flat.

Fwiw, the a833/208 combo I have from a 198? truck had the "w" x-member, and the '87 I parted out had the 700r4/208 combo on the asymmetrical wavy x-member.

I still have the other 2 x-members also.

84 it lines up with his list even though its a cucv. I parted out a 86 v6 sm456 208 and 87 v8 700r4 208. So i sold the crossmember from the 86 but kept the skid plate thinking i would put it on the 87 lol it didnt fit. So maybe it was a "w" i didnt pay attention. The 87 has the wavy. I got the 241 from a 90 k5 also had a wavy

So what im coming to the conclusion is its more the year of the truck that desides what xmemeber you get? Everything i read they all say oh flat crossmember on a 1 ton frame because they are taller.

Sure you can make whatever you have work. I think im gonna try the wavy one i got as long as it lines up with the carrier bearing I should be fine. Since im gonna lift it anyways that might have to move down im wondering or get a 1 peice draftshaft made

86. I'm not sure how much it varies from civilian to cucv, but they are technically 1-1/4 ton trucks, not 1 ton. although that may not mean anything for the crossmember...

When I purchased this truck I had over two dozen registered vehicles(counting two wheeled ones). I get **** mixed up all the time. In fact, my wife joked that if I sold 10 vehicles I would be allowed to skip our wedding and just go to the courthouse! In her defense, I have way more **** than I can work on and I’ve cut it in half. I’ve had a classic Honda motorcycle in boxes that I’ve moved with me twice and I’m still not sure when it’s going back together. It’s like your eyes are bigger than your stomach sort of thing!

Ah, neat! I'm going to look under my dually when it's light out and see what the carrier bearing crossmember looks like. I bet it's a trans crossmember!

From what I've seen and read, the cucv's no matter the year, were built with '84 parts.
